Learning Support Specialists (Inclusion)

Generative and collaborative Peer Learning Community for Learning Support Specialists

International schools are now prioritising inclusion more than at any previous time, with most just starting their journey towards becoming an inclusive organisation. This means that the need for professional development is pressing, and where better to find support than a community of your peers from across the region?

This community for Learning Support Specialists in International Schools is offering a platform to explore the ways in which the Assess-Plan-Do-Review cycle can be adapted in a meaningful way to aid student-centred planning and in formulating successful Independent Learner Plans. Additionally, we will be investigating how change management models can develop inclusive practices and anchor them in the organizational culture.

Sarah Emberger

Sarah Emberger began her journey as Inclusion champion as a language teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). She has led on innovation and change initiatives in Inner City London Schools and worked strategically with curriculum leaders and teachers to ensure students with additional needs received high quality teaching and individualised support programs that allowed them to succeed. Student-centred review processes and a tracking system for interventions were introduced as part of these efforts. In her current role, she works with BML (Bi- and Multilingual Learners) and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) students. In liaising with SLT she offers targeted PD sessions to further develop best practice and successful support for all learners.

Bronwen Jones

From rural England, to the wilds of Zimbabwe and Botswana. From some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, to teaching under a tree. From celebrating a much heralded University offer, to being ecstatic when a student has tied their shoe laces. Such are the privileges of Bronwen’s journey in education. Committed to making time at school a place to thrive and not just survive, for all in our communities. She is grateful to all the wonderful educators that she have met along the way and those she continues to meet.
